A tiny chestnut mare of 146 cm, Niniwa could easily jump under pony rules anywhere in the world. Her owner, breeder, and trainer the Ostrowski family had done a wonderful job schooling this talented mare to her superb performances, but were perhaps not so serious about parting with her, as she was led out unsold at a staggering 70,000 euros ($97,000). The Silent Sale, which wound on into the Sunday night, has become a lesser occasion over time and this year degenerated into an auction proper to the annoyance of some of the silent bidders. A further ten of 16 lots were sold for a total of 96,000 euros ($142,277) to Poland, Australia, the Canary Islands, Switzerland, and South Africa.
